My plan is to take over a local shopping precinct, and fortify it for a long term siege, however, if all goes well, i would not be there for long (a few weeks tops)

Nearby my house is a large, open shopping precinct with a hardware megastore. For those in Australia, it is a large Bunnings with full timber yard. This shopping precinct also has an electrical appliance store, 2 bed stores, 1 furniture store, a camping/outdoors store and an auto store. only a few kilometers away is another shopping precinct with 2 large supermarkets, a few clothing stores, an electrical store with all electrical components (resistors, wiring, switches the full deal) and a petrol station. I know that these would be large population centers, however, they have such valuable resources and are in such a prime location that to not try to take advantage would be stupid. Hopefully the zombie outbreak would be further away, in the large metropolitan area about an hour by car from where i live.

I would get everyone i know, plus any non infected individual willing to join to follow to the hardware megastore. The place is a massive warehouse, hundreds of square meters in area, and about 3-4 storeys tall, however there is only one level. Using all the tools on site, plus the lumber in the timber yard and the numerous metal shelves, we would creat barricades on all entrances, and create a sort of keep in the center of the building. We would use the forklifts they have handy to help us achieve this goal.

We would also leave a fortified door way on the timber yard, and park all available vehicles inside, so as to prevent any dangerous dashes to cars.

Once this is completed, or during, depending on the amount of people i have handy, we would then collect bedding and couches from the furniture stores, as there is no point in roughing it if there are comforts not 30m away. Having a decent bed to sleep in will also hopefully increase the amount of good sleep we will get, resulting in more alert team members.

Some would go to the petrol station, and fill as many jerry cans as their car can take. The jerry cans can be found at the auto store and hardware store.

Others would go to the supermarkets and retrieve as much canned or dried food as possible, and every single drop of bottled water. All first aid items and tolietries would aslo be taken at this point.

The electrical store can provide us with lots of batteries, and radio equipment plus the components to make other electrical equipment, and the manuals to do so. They also stock police scanners.

The camping store would be raided for clothing, and other essential equipment, like cooking implements, survival gear, fishing rods, as there is a creek not to far away, which runs from a large river.

the hardware store it should be noted has running water due to an on site cafe. This will be stored in as many containers as possible, as well as the few home use water tanks in stock. Hopefully we can fill these before the running water cuts out due to the people at the water service becoming Z's.

once all this has been completed, a greenhouse will be constructed, using wood, mulch, potting mix and soil and manure at harware store. All seeds for different vegetables are also available.

There are toilets at the hardware store, however, it is highly possible that running will cut out (see above) so an alternate must be created.

Using the soil on hand, plus earthworms (also found on site. You cannot belive the size of this hardware store or the range of what it stocks) and lumber and the toilet pans they have, a waste recycling unit can be created whereby solid waste will be turned into nutrient rich soil to be used on the garden.

Using a sand filtration system, all liquid refuse, plus water used for washing and other non drinking purposes, grey water will be filtered and used on the vegetables, so as little as possible drinking water will be used on the garden. The filtered water could also be used for further washing.

Using radio equipment, we will broadcast out location, and our exact longitude and latitude (found using google earth, i already know it). i am assuming zombies will be too brain dead to use this information, while those seeking refuge will find a safe haven, and the authorites/army will know where we are to rescue us. Australia is a big, big, big place, and i assume further that the distance between large population centers, harsh climate and remoteness of military instalations will ensure that help will be at hand sometime in the future.

Petrol generators are available at the camping store and hardware store, however, the petrol would be used sparingly to conserve it, as would the generators because they create a lot of noise.

I am not familiar with shooting or guns, but there are many rural properties only a half hour away which should have guns and people who know how to use them. They should aslo have CB radios, which we should be able to reach them on with the equipment from both the camping store and electrical store.

Weapons could also be fashioned from the many sharp objects at the hardware store.

A small entrance way would need to be constructed where anyone wishing to gain entrance would need to be checked for infection. This would mean they would have to strip, while those checking woul be behind a safety barrier. People may object to having to stand naked infront of strangers, but letting an infected person into the fortress would be fatal.

Cars could also be modified and armoured so that trips to get other supplies could be made. These trips would be kept to absolute minimum, to reduce risk.
