Zombie rulesSubmitted by PrinceSky on Thu, 03/04/2010 - 19:23 |
This is my zombie contingency plan broken down into a few simple rules and explanation of the rules. This basic set of rules can be used at almost any location.
1) If possible stay where you are, if not, travel as little as possible. The more time you have fortifying your area the better you are. The more time you spend getting to a new are a less time you have to establish a defensive structure. And, what is the point of going somewhere then finding it has been over run with zombies? Now where are you going to go, back to where you were? What if, in the time you spent traveling from one point to another then back again the zombies over ran your original area? Not to mention moving around with zombies on the loose is not safe. You are also more then likely familiar with the area you are. Otherwise you would not be there.
2) Guns and weapons are not important. Survival is important. Avoid zombies, do not engage them, do not fight them. Weapons are a worst case scenario, defensive tool.
3) Collect and store as much nonperishable food as possible. Try to collect this food before the zombies come. You do not want to become food while trying to go find something to eat
4) Collect and store as much water as possible. If your city's water supply is shut off and you do not have any water to drink you are in big trouble. If your electricity is off and you have an electric well it does you no good
5) Have a generator and fuel, if you do not have one do not risk your life in order to get it. People live thousands of years without electricity we can survive without it
6) Have soil, fruit seeds and vegetables. This will allow you to start a garden. One of the best places for this would be on the roof(if you have one). If you have a generator and sun lamps you will be able to grow a garden indoors.
7) If you can, get upstairs. Destroy the stairs behind you. The quickest way to do this would be a controlled burn. Controlled being the key word. This is also the most dangerous way to destroy the stairs.
8) Have some sort of HAM Radio if possible, battery operated would be ideal
but if your talking about staying in your house (like you said) to grow vegetables on your roof would require lots and lots and lots of dirt. like, lots. easily two feet deep of dirt. thats if you want them to grow to full size. itd be pretty hard to get that amount of dirt on your roof and stop it from falling off. also, unless you own a mansion, its unlikely you have the sheer space to grow enough fruit and vegies to be able to feed yourself all year round. and umm, soil loses its nutrients over time, so after one season itll be barren. youd have to constantly switch it with fresh soil from down below, and lifting that much soil would require a crane :\
A leisure battery twinned with a solar briefcase can do wonders.
I bought a Solar briefcase (Which is exactly what it says on the tin, a brief case sized package which opens up to reveal 2 large photovoltaic panels) from Sit up's Bid TV last year and it is brilliant, I take it camping all the time obviously it's not as good as a petrol generator, and the weather is a little unreliable but the leisure battery from an old boat solved that problem. It has no difficulty powering my friend's CB, so I imagine it will be capable of powering a Ham radio and 12v lighting. What's more, it cost half as much as a generator, including the old battery.
sorry to say this but theres so many situations i can see go wrong with your rules... this is wat i see wrong:
1) you can gather as much food as you want but innevitably it will run out, so thats a REALLY good reason to not stay in one place. same thing goes for water and fuel for ur generator.
2) id b better to engage zombies because if enough gather around this "seemingly" impenetratable fortress they will wear it down and break thru.
3) guns and weapons are important... unless if you jus so happen to be sum master martial arts that can take heads off easily :D
