The Realistic Back-Up Plan

Unfortunately a lot of plans such as flying to a Scottish castle, building a fortress or moving to the top of a tepui (http://www.terebess.hu/kert/roraima.jpg), may be a touch impractical. I've had to create a back up plan where we have very little time to prepare. Now, I live in a town of 15,000 people, an hour east is a million people. The hypothetical scenario is as such: The city has been infected, it will starts spreading towards the town and it looks like it wont stop spreading anytime soon. Worst case scenario we have a little over an hour before an infected survivor fleeing the city arrives. So the plan itself is this.

1. Gather all non perishable food, camping supplies and weapons, my telescope and throw into my backpacking backpack and car.
- Time: 15min

2. Take the car and start phoning friends on cell, drive up the street, picking up friends (who all live relatively close) and supplies along the way, at the end of the street grab guns, bows, and ammo from the friend who hunts. We should have some supplies and at least 2 vehicles by now.
- Time: 35min (5 min for each house, 10 min driving)

3. Head downtown, splitting up and maxing withdraw limits and debit/credit limits to buy various supplies of non-perishable food, camping gear we don't have, some sort of weapon for those without, and other survival gear.
- Time: 20min
- Total Time Before leaving: 1hour, 10min

4. Throw everything in the vehicles and floor it out of town, towards the mountains (which the town is in the middle of). Find a high place, but still under the tree line and set up camp. Listen to the radio 24/7, both am and fm, watch below with the telescope, seeing how the infection has spread. Stay here for as long as necessary.

5. At this point one of two things can happen: Option A: The town blockaded the highway and is holding out, or Option B: the town is infected and survivors and few and far between. If Option A, great, partially break camp (in-case) and head down. If Option B, stay camped, making quick sorties into town for supplies and possible survivors. Given that most of the population will flee along the highway once an outbreak is confirmed by the media, the town’s low population, high percentage of holiday-home owners, and remote location, the zombie population of the town should be relatively low. Once enough time has past, a systematic clearing of the town should begin, until base camp can be moved to a secure building in a zombie-free section of town.

After this, it's all up to what has happened everywhere else. Do we start on the self-sustaining fortress? Do we try to travel to an organized community of resistance? Do we start a nomadic lifestyle? Hopefully it won't come to that.

Good

Very simalar to mine, the only problem i have with yours is that most people dont have guns, bows, ammo, ect. so you should grab more common objects like baseball bats, fireman axe's, lead pipes, ect.

I like it! Sounds a lot like

I like it! Sounds a lot like my Part A of the Plan.

Very precise. But be very prepared for any fluctuations. There will be many.

Unfortunately yes, this is

Unfortunately yes, this is what happens if everything goes according to plan, well, this plan anyway. If necessary we can probably take a little more time unless the survivor turned on the way over and has just been restrained, if it gets out and causes mass panic, we have a problem.
