Okay so I have a four phase plan, and yes im skilled in gun combat, camping, canoeing, kayaking, blade combat, fishing welding, remodeling, electrical work, leadership, first aid, and many other skills that will be useful when the infection begins. I also have 3 months of non-perishable food (for 10 people) in a van, along with 3 voyager conoes, a standard canoe, and a kayak, many other supplys (will post my supply list later) I have been to every place I mention in the first two phases of my plan. My friends each have similar supplys (minus canoes an kayak) this plan has been very well thought out and includes many backups and alternatives which I might add later. Now, onto the actual plan, I live in Portland OR, in a small neighborhood on the edge of town, called St. Johns.

Phase one: departing from Portland (2 weeks after initial outbreak, or immediately if on pacific coast)

Okay this involves me and my brother (he lives across the street, with his two sons) getting into my van and driving down to Cathedral Park (there are no major thoroughfares between us and the park so traffic shouldn't be very bad) with my brother holding his shotgun incase of zombie attack. Once we get their we'll immediately load all the supplys into three canoes and paddle (all our supplys and my group will fit, it has been tested) to the nearby Sauvie island quarry (the quarry and the island aren't defensible, plus the people there are more sensible (farming folk) and will flee. (talked to the quarry owner about it, he says everyone would flee)there, we would wait three days checking the Cathedral park boat ramp at 5:00 am, 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, 5:00 pm, and 7:00 pm, or when anyone of my buddies who contacts me on a cb radio (we have an unused frequency) anyone who passes inspection will be allowed along with us, and whatever supplie sthey have. At this point we will take the plywood and lags I have (in supply cache) to make the three voyager canoes into a catamaran, which will double rhe room onboard. After the first three days we will leave sauvie's island and head down to the columbia, leaving the standard canoe with a weeks worth of supplys and a copy of our route in case of stragglers. We will then head to the oregon coast, island hopping all the way to astoria (I have the whole plan charted out and have followed it all the way, including defensible camps on each island). We'll check each dock we pass for survirors and supplies (scouting them first with the kayak). When we reach the oregon coast we'll send a scout on the kayak to check out the city(we are planning on it being overrun because it'll take us two to three weeks to get here). We'll stop on a small island in the bay (more of a grassy sandbar) and rest for the night. This is where phase one ends, and phase two begins

Phase two: settling down and fortifying

the next morning we land at fort stevens (an old millitary fort on the oregon coast). My core group (my friends and I who planned this all) will then land and clear out a path to Battery Mishler (an old coastal bunker with 6 inch thick steel doors) and see if our Astorian friend made it to the bunker all right. Once it's clear we'll move all the supplys from the landing site to the battery (we'll leave emergency supplies in the boats in case we need to retreat) we'll then spend the rest of the day fortifying Battery Mishler until it's even better then it was before. Next my core group will take off to the island we were on last with a couple of shovels. Once theey reach the island they will dig up the secret supply cache we have there (I know it sounds far fetched but it's true) Including razorwire and more food. They'll bring these suppplys back to Battery Mishler. We will then spend the next two weeks slowly expanding the border until we take control of the whole of Fort Stevens. This will be our second layer of defense. Meanwhile we will be sending out foraging partys and looking for supplys, startting up farms, and teaching the civillians how to hunt, fish, and fight. We the rebuild the old fort wall with timber from the park itself, and then steel in for a few months. For the next couple of months we will biuld houses and continue to fortify all the coastal Batteries ( as emergency shelters in case of seige). This is the end of phase two

Phase Three: Reclaiming Astoria

Now that we have our fortifications and farms. We can build more buildings, but we'd have to range farther out to get the timber (my core group and I will stay in Battery Mishler as a sort of Hq). Next we start moving into Astoria, and reclaim it by force, block by fortified block. This will give us acess to much needed supplies as well as luxury items we haven't haad since the initial outbreak. The reclaiming of astoria will be slow, hard, and methodical, but with enough time we should be able to free the city of infestation. While we are reclaiming the city we'll search for survivors (ie in buildings, and such). Once we have the city under our control, (along with the smaller outlying towns). We start building a wall around the city (from building to building) with several gates. At this time we would start having people move out of our crude dwellings in Fort Stevens and into the much better lodgings of the city. We should be self sufficient by now, and this would be the end of phase three (2-3 weeks after the wall is completed).

Phase Four: Re-establishing society

okay from what I've seen, this is the phase that no one thinks about. Everyone secures their area, becomes self sufficient,and then? Nada. my plan continues with the necessary steps for rebuilding society. this is a lot of calculation and guesswork, but i have hundreds of possible scenarios worked out in my head and oh paper, of which i will show only one.

okay so this basic scenario consists of increasing our numbers, both by searching for survivors and the old fashioned way, and sending out scouting parties. these parties will travel out of our fortified safe zone, in an armored car (we'll armor them ahead of time) with one weeks worth of rations and some weaponry. these groups will have orders to go to a nearby town or location and have a map. they will then check for survivors and either help them get up a radio link with us, or bring them back if they would rather just join us. then, after we have found all the survivor groups within a days drive of Astoria, we'll start to improve roadways, communication, and supplies. with a communication system in place and clear roads between groups, we should be ready, and able, to form a small system of government for our combined communities. we would continue to improve our situation and start to search farther out, and hopefully find more survivor colonies, and groups, possibly another government like ours this plan would be continued and we would eventually either encounter a group doing the same expansion, but from the east coast, or reach the east coast ourselves. at this point my plan comes to a screeching halt, as there are just too many factors to possibly predict (this far has been enough work) and i can't plan what happens next.

Okay, so this is my plan for survival, and NO i don't plan on becoming some new world leader or anything like that, just helping as many as i can to survive. i also invite anyone in the Portland to join me at one of the stated times at the cathedral park b oat ramp, there will be an extra canoe (5 man only) if your late, but only one. we won't come back for stragglers, so either get there on time, or be the first straggler. follow the map in the canoe up the coast till you pass Astoria and get to the red X there you'll be able to see a yellow flag with a red shield on it, that will be at Battery Mishler. you can also come by land, we'll be waiting. oh, and any supplies you could bring would be welcome and greatly appreciated.
