Allright, my plan is simple. For the sake of argument I'm presuming we have a condition only transmitted by bites of the undead, and that we're dealing with slow not particularly bright zombies.
I live in the country, have a 5 acre property on a small river, thoroughly protected by fencing along the road, and blackberries elsewhere (even a zombie ain't getting through a mile thick blackberry patch). I keep about two weeks worth of food and water handy, and could probably live a long time on fish from the river and game. But that ain't my plan.
I'd wait a couple of days to make sure the governement wasn't going to take care of the problem. HA Government. When that didn't work I'd take my KLR650 motorcycle into the small town up the road, avoiding zombies with the throttle and squeezing between the abandonded cars sure to clog the roads after the big bite hits.
Where I live houses are about 1/2 mile apart in rural OR. So zombies in the area aren't going to be a big problem immediately, but they're going to get worse as the living dead gets hungry in a bigger town about 10 miles away, and my neighbors go native. So I'd pick them off with a small 22 cal rifle while I waited, may not stop them with one shot to the body, but a shot to the brain will put anything on 2 legs down.
After a week I'd give up on the government, pack my supplies into a couple of dual sport bikes, and go ride with my wife to some remote lakes I know where one could hole up for weeks or months with plenty of fish and game to survive on. I never see anyone hiking there when I go in the non-zombie world, so I sure as hell doubt I'll see any zombies now. But I'll have a rifle, and I'm riding my bikes on the trails (Ain't gonna worry about them forest rangers now), so I'll have a quick way out of there if things get bad.
Another critical requirement is a crank radio, so I can listen to smooth FM jazz, or more likely monitor for survivors, or for powerful people seeking survivors to exploit, either one.
If the cuthroat stop biting, or I just get bored, I figure I'd ride into a small community once a month to kind of check things out. The odds of being accidentally shot by another survivor while on a bike are probably low, 'cause these are the stupid zombies who only ride scooters.
