Inland Northwest Zombie PlanSubmitted by tythezombieguy on Wed, 06/30/2010 - 09:58 |
My Zombie plan is simple, and quite straightforward. We all know Zombies will be attracted to large population centers initially. State capitols, large cities, and the like. Once taken, these places will become mostly uninhabitable for the living. The trick to avoiding Zombies, is to avoid the crowd...
When Zombies attack, I'll be headed for the Bob Marshall Wilderness in Montana.

The trickiest part will be getting out of the City where I live. I have transportation; A motorcycle which suits my needs perfectly. Depending how much/how fast the infection has spread, I may just have the time to maneuver and plan a little more with friends and family. If it seems unlikely that I am able to safely meet up with anyone, I'll travel on my own.
I know the Bob Marshall well enough to survive, and live off of the land for as long as is necessary. The area is large enough, and far enough away from high population centers, to avoid most, if not all Zombie contact.
My escape supplies are as follows, and will fit in a standard school backpack and/or can be slung or carried on my person.
1x Water Bottle
1x Whistle
1x Compass
1x Map of Bob Marshall Wilderness
1x Hand Held Water Filtration Pump
1x Binoculars
1x 50 Ft. Rope
1x Pair of Leather Gloves
1x 7" Bowie Knife
2x Boxes of Matches
1x Zippo Lighter
1z 5 Pack of Bic lighters
1x Aluminum Baseball bat
5x Rolls of Gauze
1x Bottle Hydrogen Peroxide
1x Flask of Whiskey(Enjoy the little things... ~_^)
1x Swiss Army Knife or Equivalent
1x Spool Fishing wire
2x Blankets
1x Hatchet/Small Axe
1x Wilderness Survival Book
I'm not gonna lie, the Wilderness survival book is probably one of my favorite tools. If you enjoy camping, or want to have an alternate Zombie plan that involves the woods or outdoors, I highly suggest you find an Outdoorsman book.
Once in the wilderness, there are trees, rivers, plants, and animals to aid in my survival. I can use the environment to help me live, and hide, while I plan my next move.
I agree, surival books are a definite plus.
Although, it's a little too basic.
What are you using for transport?
Will there be other survivors with you?
What will you do if you encounter zeds?
There are a few small kinks in this particular plan, I know, however I don't believe it's anything that would pose a serious obstacle to my escape/well being.
For transport, I stated I have a motorcycle. If you really want DETAILS, I suppose I'm just proud enough of it that I can share (:D). I have a Yamaha Maxim 650 standard, that'll get me across the 300(ish) miles between where I live, to my destination. Once the roads stop, I hoof it through the trees, hills, valleys, lakes and rivers.
I actually prefer the days when I can imagine my plan happening with three to four survivors accompanying me. I can fit one person on the back of my motorcycle, so if nothing else, one person can ride to our destination with me. There is strength in numbers, however more people DOES make for slower travel in the wild. This shouldn't present a major issue though, as we wont necessarily be actively fleeing Zombies at all times, but rather just trying to avoid contact.
I'm assuming by "Zeds", you mean Zombies, and with this assumption in mind, there are several calculations one would need to make before taking any definitive action in a "Zombie combat scenario". The first question you ask yourself in this situation... Are the odds for me? Or against me? As much as I love to imagine myself turning into Chuck Norris and skull-f*cking 4 Zombies at once, its not gonna happen. If the odds are even(Lets say, two zombies per every person), I would definitely consider introducing them to the business end of my baseball bat.
Ahm, fair enough.
Sounds pretty solid.
How much noise does the bike make?
Just wondering.
Noise could attract anything from survivors or raiders to zeds.
Only thing I got wrong with it is the number of people :l
Three - four is a very low number.
You might want a few people to help you, I don't doubt you could easily survive on your own, but you might need someone to keep a watch at night -for protection- or to help build shelter, etc. And the human mind is generally a fragile thing, even those who think they are strong-willed can collapse under pressure. In a post-apocalyptic situation, you would want someone to be there with you, to comfort you. Loneliness is incredibly damaging to the psyche. And chances are that you might just have to repopulate the Earth.
That's my only major criticism, I think.
But it sounds really good, hope you survive! :D
(And yeah, Zeds/Zombies/Infected/Whatever, it's all basically the same thing.)
Bear in mind how loneliness and seperation can affect the mind.
Also, what happens if Zombies do come?
Where will you shelter from the worst of the weather?
What if you get stuck/hurt/bored/fall over comically?
