head for the hillsSubmitted by hadahoward99 on Thu, 05/07/2009 - 03:09 |
This is a three part plan starting now. I am currently taking steps to make my home self sufficient. This gives me the skill sets I will need, establish a functional base for the initial rush, and help me save resources for when I really need them. I work out, practice archery, and practice staff techniques with any yard tool I am working with. My crew of friends have similar setups and are also working on farming, metal working, and herbology specializations.
When everything goes crazy, I will move my stores of water, food, fuel, and anything else I can grab to the second floor. I can barricade the door at the bottom of the stairs and/or destroy the stairs as we head for the safety of the second story. I have enough supplies to last for ~3 months.
If the world has not figured itself out in this amount of time, it is time to settle in for the long haul. This third stage is highly dependent on the size of the hoard in the immediate vicinity of my home by this point. If the group is manageable (10-20), I will dispatch the hoard and make my home the base for my new expanding territory. The trees in the forest behind my house will easily make a fort wall around my house, or more depending on how many neighbors are still around.
If the hoard is too great to handle on my own, we will cut and run. I have supply stores every 20 miles from my house to a plot I have established in the Adirondacks. The stores are 2 ft long and 6 inch wide PVC pipe capped on both ends and filled with MRE like kits and water. These are buried at points I cannot share along my path. The plot I will establish my new base of operations is at the top of the mountains and is surrounded by sheer cliffs. My crew of friends all have a similar plan to head to this location unless they hear otherwise from one of us. The location I have established is large enough to establish a new commune with this crew of friends.
The key to this plan is the prep work we are doing now. The farming, woodworking and construction skills I develop while preparing my home will be more useful in establishing a zombie safe zone than any last minute scramble.
