Group SurvivalSubmitted by ZOMBIES MUST DIE on Tue, 07/27/2010 - 16:02 |
Ok, this plan is based on the assumption that news has got out about the attack, you're starting in a semi-detatched house with about 4 people, be it family or friends, and your neighbors are gone or have agreed to help you. Also, assuming you live in the UK, where firearms are difficult go get unless you are in a gang, police, RAF or the army.
This plan was designed using a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide for help. Guidance in the book has been used and/or improved on to help ensure the best possible plan for this particular situation.
Week 1 - First actions
First of all, because news has gotten out about the outbreak of zombies, there will be mass panic everywhere. People are most likely to rush to their cars and try to get as far away from the source of the outbreak as possible. This is stupid. This is the thing most people are thinking of. The roads will quickly become blocked with fleeing traffic and chaos will tear through the entire area. The best thing to do is to stay in your house until the streets are clear.
Have one person fill the bath with water in case your water supply is cut off at a later date. A second person should begin making a hole in the wall that connects your house with your neighbor's on the top floor. This will give you more space for living in over the next few days and will give you access to any supplies left in both houses. Have the remaining people begin collecting supplies. You shouldn't need to be here for more than a week, so here's a list of what you should collect to be stored upstairs...
- Food (preferably canned) any fresh food should be eaten FIRST. Food should be just enough for your group for 1 week, no more food will be necessary for now.
- First Aid kit
- 2 battery powered flash lights
- Spare batteries
- Portable electric stove
- Tools such as a sledgehammer, ax, crowbar etc. (also make good zombie-slaying weapons)
Then it's onto collecting weapons. These are really more important for later on but can be useful if you need to go downstairs for any supplies you may forget in the rush to get to safety. Ideal weapons are as follows...
- Wakizashi or other short-bladed swords (max. 1 each if you have enough)
- 1 or 2 knives each (6-8 inch blade is best)
- Crossbow + bolts (two should be enough with sufficient ammo)
- Machete (max. 1 each min. 2 is best)
NOTE: You may not have all of these weapons, but similar weapons are just as good. Also, if you have firearms, please feel free to use them, but, as mentioned before, they are difficult to get if you are living in the UK. If you have more weapons ideal for indoor use, keep them in a safe place that is easy to get to if necessary.
For the first week, you should keep a log of the supplies that you have. Ration your food to ensure it lasts the duration of your stay here and make sure your weapons are in good condition and ready to be used at all times. It's a good idea to have 24 patrols to ensure maximum security of your house. Also, you should get rid of the staircases so that the zombies can't get up to you. Plan an escape route, should you be overrun by a large zombie attack and keep a low profile until you are ready to leave. Avoid making loud noises that would give away your position, block your windows so no light escapes from within your living quaters or keep lights turned off at all times. If there are any dead bodies lying around your house, get rid of them by either burning them or burying them. You should also try to keep both yourself and your companions entertained. This will help keep you calm and reduce the risk of arguments and possible insanity. After all, you may be spending a long time with these people. Remember to keep everything in the same place, preferably in bags so you can leave immediately if need be.
Weeks 2-8 - New Location
Once the chaos has died down and the roads are clear, it's time to move to a better location. After about a week, you probably would have cleared out most of your food supply and may be running low on water. Gather up your remaining supplies, all of your weapons and decide where you want to go. Try not to pick a place that is too far away, as you may be limited to only a few miles, depending how much food and water you have left. I'd suggest a large shop or small supermarket. These have plenty of supplies and could keep you safe for several months, provided there aren't any large windows or doors to advertise your presence to the enemy. It is also a good idea to have a backup plan incase your chosen destination has already been claimed and the people there refuse to let you join them.
Once you have chosen your destination, you should consider what you need to take with you. I'd suggest carrying no more than you are able to run with, incase you need to flee a hoard of zombies. Here is a list of supplies you should take with you...
- Enough food for your group for the journey (if the journey is long enough to require food)
- Max. 1 litre of water each
- Walkie-talkies - one each is probably best, incase you are seperated.
- Spare batteries
- First Aid kit (make sure this is fully stocked before you leave the house)
- Tools such as a sledgehammer, ax, crowbar etc.
I'd suggest you each carry your own food and water, should you get seperated. Mini first aid kits are also useful for if you become injured while seperated from the rest of your group. However, if you fall you will need to move quickly to avoid any zombies that may catch up to you. Give the main First Aid kit to the person in your group that you see as the best at treating injuries. Again, give the tools to whoever you feel is best at handling them. As for weapons, you'll also be limited to what you can take with you. Here is a list of my prefered weapons for zombie killing on the move...
- Katana (2 should be enough for your group if you can get them)
- Shaolin Spade (ideal as a primary weapon)
- Naginata (long pole with a blade on the end, also good as a primary weapon)
- Nunchucks (ideal secondary weapon, preferably steel)
- Machete (2 should be enough for your group)
Basically, any weapon that is relatively light and can either crush or decapitate the head is a good enough weapon against zombies. Try to go for larger weapons such as long swords to avoid getting too close to the zombies.
Travel: Your journey should cover as little ground as possible to reduce your risk of being caught. Try to stay out of open ground and avoid making any unnecessarily loud noises. NEVER travel at night unless it is absoloutely necessary. Don't stray from your course or take long breaks as it will increase the risk of being caught. Feel free, however, to stop and help any UNINFECTED humans you find along the way.
Once you get to your location, barricade all doors and windows. If your location has a second floor, take everything up there and destroy, turn off or barricade any staircases or elevators. If not, try to build some kind of platform that would keep you safe from any zombies that might break in. This plan is based on a large shop or small supermarket, which will provide food for a small group of people for several months, maybe even a couple of years. However, you chould still keep a log of what you have, and ration your food and water to ensure it lasts the duration of your stay.
Most supermarkets should have back-up generators, should they ever have a power-cut, to eneble them to salvace as much of their frozen produce as possible. If, however, this is broken or there simply isn't one, see if anyone in your group can either fix or build a generator that will power the building, even if it's just enough to save some of the frozen goods. Again, have 24 hour patrols and keep each other entertained. The most important thing you will need is an escape route and a plan of where you will move if your current location becomes overwhelmed by zombies.
Months after... Waiting
During the months you may be cooped up in this building, you will have to get along with your companions, no matter what the curcumstances. You need to create back-up plans and practice for situations that you may end up in. This will leave you prepared for almost anything, ensuring your survival. If you do need to move locations, you should already have a back-up location and an escape route. It's a good idea to keep some weapons and supplies in bags ready so you can just pick them up and run, should you need to. There's not much you can do, other than wait for the outbreak to die out. Do whatever you can to survive. If the outbreak should ever get to the point where the existance of mankind is at risk of ending, you may have to track down your nearest military base. This would be the safest place to go, but (depending on the amount of survivors left in existance) there could be a shortage of supplies. It would be a good idea to take as much of your own supplies as you can, just in case. If need be, get a vehicle so you don't have to waste valuable energy and risk getting injured. Also, this way you can take a lot more supplies with you.
First of all thanks babe for anouncing to a epic forum site that i play rs <3 love you too
ok Depressed racoon first of all love ur user n pic :P
ok now down to teh zombie buisness
the basis of this plan is a edition of my origion serius person zombie servival plan, and personaly i would take advantage of the panic and press into a supermarkes asap using my readily availible weapons (odd hobby) being blades varieng from katanas to long swords to knifes...
if news got out on a afformentiond zombie holocaust people wouldnt keep a level head and would flee for the county or even out of the uk,only level headed people or planning people would go for the suermarkets, which would be the sort of people you would wnat in addition to your party.
therefore getting the generators working to keep the frozen food frozen would work.
and as to your comments on the katanas yes a hatchet is very good and you are right katanas would need sharpening regularly, but the one thing no1 ever seems to concider about such a thing is boredom... and if you have ever sharpened and oild a blade it is verry relaxing and relived boredem( i once spent over a hour sharpening one of my knifes and thort i had only been doing so for 10 mins yet if you have a sharp katana it can be used quicker and more effectivly than a heavy weapon like a hatchet or a bludgening item so would be more usefull in speed, obviusly multiple weapons should be carried such as a hatchet type, a katana type and a small knife using for different situations
but i too shall drink a cup of tea to your survival ( even tho i hate the stuff but it has calleries and caffine vital during the proposed situation )
hope to see you after the brain dead bastards have starved to imobility
apoligies for spelling mistakes not my strong point =p
But everyone else would be pressing into the supermarkets to try and loot and steal whatever they can. Check all the dead accounts on the site, most people think that rushing to the closest gunshop or supermarket makes them invincible. It wouldn't, more people=more noise=more zombies. I'm pretty sure it has Supermarkets as a definate no-no in the Zombie Survival Guide, but if not, I'd still severly warn against it.
And no-one should hate tea. Tea is AWESOME. I'd get Prophet on you, but he left. =(
He's the one who made my display pic. ='(
Thank you for backing up my supermarket/katana plan.
What you may not know is that a katana IS a long blade, and the one you have is meant for defence and would not make for a good zombie killing weapon. That thing is also broken. Ok, it is the decoration on the handle that's broken, but for all you know, that could've been perfectly balanced or whatever.
Also, drink relentless, you like it more and it's probably better than tea in this kinda situation. It has more caffene, more callories (I think), it wouldn't waste valuable water supplies AND if you're hiding in a supermarket there will be loads of it. Just thought I'd point that out x
But relentless and other energy drinks can lead to dehydration. If you drink too much. And you don't want to be buzzing when the zombies hit, you want a cool head. Also, they don't give you much extra energy, it's mainly a psychological thing.
While that may be correct, you don't know my boyfriend. He barely eats anything (which would be good for preserving food in a zombie apocolypse xD) and drinks nothing but energy drinks. I'm pretty sure his body's produced an immunity to them 'cause he is hardly ever buzzing. Plus, he doesn't like water. He'll only drink flavoured water if you refuse to give him anything else and will only drink plain water if there's nothing else available and he's at risk of dying.
So there.
-Weeks 2-8 new location
Supermarkets would be some of the first places hit by the panicked masses. The shelves will be empty long before the two week mark.
I'm pretty sure Nun-chucka are illegal in britain. Not sure where I saw that, so I'll ned to check that.
Katana's aren't that great weapons (not that they're not good), but there are better alternatives- Hatchets would be much better suited for caving in the skull or detaching the head of a knocked over or unaware zombies. They also don't need to be kept as sharp, due to the weight behind the cutting head.
Naginata are too long to be used sensibly inside or in cramped conditions. A short handled axe is always (IMO) preferable.
If you're moving to the supermarket after 2 weeks, there's no point getting the generator working for the frozen food, it'd be long rotten and beyond edible.
Vechiles are loud and can attract zombies. The roads would also probably be jammed completely.
I would suggest staying at your primary base and begining to farm with all the supplies you can find. But I live in the country, so this wouldn't be so feasible in the city.
Over all, a good base plan, but most people already have their base plan worked out... And a lot of people have the Zombie Survival Plan (I do, for one).
But it's good to see there's more people in Britain desperate to survive. Good luck sir. I shall drink a cup of tea to your survival.
Military bases are a gamble, it depends on whether there's any discipline and whether they're hostile to everyone yet.
Ok, first of all, I'm not the expert in zombie survival. My boyfriend is. AND I had no help from him other than finding this website. I spent hours bent over a desk trying to figure out a decent plan while he sat at his computer playing on runescape or whatever. Second, if nunchucks are illegal, my friend should possibly be in jail cuz he brought some into school and was fighting sum kid with them,or so I've heard.
Another point: Naginata was intended as an OUTDOOR weapon for travelling between locations.
Finally, I would prefer it if you didn't call me 'sir' as I am a GIRL.
Thanks for the advice though, you're way more help then my good-for-nothing boyfriend ^.^
A woman can be a sir if she's knighted... I think.
I'm a Lord, but that's only because my brother bought me a title for my birthday...
And if you've spent any time on the internet at all, you'll realise why I assume everyone is a man until proved otherwise.
I believe the correct term for a woman who has been knighted is a dame... that was just from about 2 seconds of internet research and the internet isn't always right, but that sounds about right...
Sorry for getting upset at you for calling me sir... I kinda forgot the fact that girls are less likely to be found on sites about zombies ^.^
Group survival in the UK. Not bad but the place I live is in the USA. I have trust issues as well so group survival nags me. Sure it has its perks but only if you trust the others. Nice Idea though.
I don't really trust people either, but I based this plan on the assumption that I'd be at my boyfriend's house when the zombies decided to attack... I totally trust his family and they treat my like a family more so than my own ^.^ If I wasn't with my boyfriend I'd probably go solo... working on a plan for that atm...
Babe if u wasnt with me id come and get you <3
If you tried to do that you'd die i live about a half hour drive from you, the roads would be blocked with frantic people and if you tried walking it'd probably take you about two hours. And besides, if you walked you'd either get killed by panicked citizens or the zombies.
Also, what if I'm half way round the world? You don't know how to fly so you can't just jack a plane, and you wouldn't be able to swim... the boats would be gone too...
I would help him... At least he has a chance when to save the one he loves... Dont doubt your boyfriend... He may be half a mile away but at least he is trying to save you.... My fiancee is 3500+ Miles away from me and even I will try... If you have a reason to live then nothing can stop you.. Oh, and if any of you travel with me here is a tip. If you get bit, I am killing you on the spot.
Killing people who get bit is a good idea. I'm quite likely to get bit as I can't run for shit and I'm incredibly clumsy. However, if I got bit I'd have to kill myself because my boyfriend wouldn't be able to. He'd probably try to keep me alive and try to find a cure for me xD If not he'd go on a massive killing spree ending in his own death.
killing spreed in zombie apoc =D funnn
but yeah thats what id do if u got bit ='(
and he is right if im coming to get u zombie or not u get in my way il kill you, anything for you <3
nothing would stop me getting to you... and if i get to u n ur dead/zombie id kill every moving thing in england and you know i would xD
Please don't kill everythin thats moves... u can kill the zombies and the people I don't like, but don't kill everyone...
