Group of seven
I will have this stuff prepared and used for camping with friends and for the zombies and another pandemic (not swine flu but another Spanish flue witch no one knows why it stopped) when things go bad load up truck and go into the north where we would take the truck up power lines/ logging roads until we get to 2/3 of a tank then leave but hide and remove the trucks componet so inoperable. We would move slow 2-4km and hour with packs of at least 100 pounds. Move 5 to 10 km a day so not to over work our self. when engaged the ammo man gives out ammo to people who need it from ammo boxes.
General supplies poncho, hat , 4 boots 2 for summer and one for winter, watch, 5 pares of socks, 3 canteens, some food, matches, walkie talkie, hand held cb radio, fm/am/weather radio with hand crank, knife. First ade kit, soap 10 bars, 10 razors, fishing pole and accessories, iPod, Kleenex, Tylenol, multi tool, night vision goggles and watch, leather coat and pants for winter and gas masks for return if pandemic because being in forest for 1-5 years will leave you venerable for new diseases witch other people have built up anti bodies to.

Me being the avid backpacker on this site, I just have to make sure of one thing: Do you know how much 100 pound pack actually is? I mean, that is rated in the HULK range of backpacking.
Yes it is possible, but the amount of food you would need to consume each day in order to attain the required amount of calories for walking 5-10k a day with 100 pounds is quite a lot.
After hiking over 1300 miles of the Appalachian Trail and backpacking over 300 miles in the Rockies, I have found that the perfect weight is between 35-50 pounds. That can enable you to travel far distances with out tiring too easily.
So I'm sure you could do it, but you better have enough food and the fortitude to do so.
Unless you meant to just get to the tower, in which case it is really possible, but be prepared for a workout.
Dragging the canoe... even a fiber glass canoe can dent or hole pretty easily, if you portage the canoe instead, you don't run the risk of tearing it up.
Other than that one thing, I like the idea, some of the stuff will be really hard to come by, if you ever do, but nice job.
I would backpack for a week at the most. Driving the truck up the power lines would get the team their most of the way I don't want to go more than 50k from the truck. I do have concerns about the canoe but with it being in the middle of the line the 2 people in front can say something if they encounter dead falls or Canadian Shield. There is no tower but I would go to a lake, make a shelter/ building out of three tarps which would be 30-40feet because they don’t make 40-40 so extra tarp to compensate and the other 3 would be for the snow fence and a front roof for the front of the camp to keep people dry and supplies. And yes the 100 lbs is a bitch I’ve done squats that’s why there is a 10km limit or stop at lunch
What are you going to do? Just walk the entire time? No base? No cabin or any buildings that you could fortify and defend yourself from?
i would make my base from the tarps, becouse the locals would know of the buildings thus sharing your shit or fire fight. during spare time and depending on how good the location is the group can make a log cabin
That makes sense.
Realistically, you're not really going to be able to get all of this; how will you get maps from google earth when the power is gone, and the internet is collapsed at every level.
You can maintain guns at your base.
I'd suggest every has a basic knowledge of first aid, with one person with more knowledge. 'Solar Panels' (I assume you mean Photovoltaic cells) are not only quite large, but also heavy and incredibly rare. Unless you're currently installing them on your own house, you're unlikely to find many.
GPS will start to become innefectual (then completely innoperable) quite quickly after the ZombPocalypse- not only do they need constant angular adjustment, they also need to steer their way from falling to earth. Without control, they will fall and burn up, or collide with other space debri.
Everyone should be gun proficient, you don't need a 'gun man'. Everyone should take as much ammo as they can (or feel they should).
DUCT. DUCT. DUCT. It's DUCT tape.
'Few books'. Thanks for being so vague.
Each person should have a melee weapon, so you don't need one with two hatchets. What bonus does the other one offer? And don't say one for each hand, that's purely innefectual.
You're suggesting carrying a canoe everywhere that you go? If you need one, launch it as close to your base as is safe. Don't carry it around unless you need one.
One person carrying ten cans of food? Along with a lot of metal?
3 40x40 foot tarps? Why?
I'd have half of people carrying a tent each, but perhaps a smaller one.
Toilet paper!? Not only do you have more important priorities, how long do you think the last supplies of bog roll would last?!
Well if he's a nerd like me then he should have them printed out already...
I will have all of the maps printed out prior to z day for camping or another Spanish flu hits.
for solar panels
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/SolarPortablePower/SolarEne...
small one for back pack and large for on top of canoe being dragged
for when gps fails I would have an atlas and Google maps printed off prior to z day for camping and with compasses
Hatchets are for cutting wood for fire. for melee there are knifes and the sks has a bayonet built into the gun, as well as the but of the .22s.
tarps can keep you camp, fire wood and you dry, also in winter you can cut a overused tarp into 8, 20x10 foot slices for a snow fence, that will keep some snow out of your base as well as cold wind.
For the TP, leaves are not around in the winter. You can start fires quicker with TP,
Where I would go in some places snow can get 5 feet deep in power lines. So no major moving in winter
I would go 1 km every 30 minutes for 5-6 hours so get up before dark and get camp packed and move out at dawn and stop at lunch, until we find the best spot to last for the winter.
For books English French dictionary (bec of Québec) and encyclopaedia of weather, biology, field craft or bush oriented, skin mags 5-10, 1-3 novels of history before z day (ww2 and earlier), encyclopaedia of rifles to help identify guns of failed groups.
Like I said i will have all of this for camping/ hunting for 1-2 months in the woods prior to z day
