To start my friends and i would gather our weapons and survival supplies such as canned food, MRE's, any ammunition and bags to carry it all as well as food producing pets such as chickens that can quickly be gathered and moved and meet at our local outdoors store. there we would acquire any required ammunition preferably from 2000 to 3000 22. caliber rimfire rounds(as 22 rounds tend to only enter one side of the skull and ricochet inside the head).we would then travel together to a nearby peninsula(north houghton lake) where we would fend off any nearby zombies while others use the surrounding resources(trees) to construct a barrier around the shoreline(there would be no shortage of trees considering we are in michigan. We would then fortify the only land entrance using logs and fortify even further with fence about 8 feet above ground and 3 to 4 below ground. the fence would be aquired from any hardware store on the way. once the borders are fortified we would raise any aquired livestock for food and grow crops inside the compound and fish in the lake for fish. there would be about 30 to 40 people in our sanctuary all of which would be armed with rifles/shotguns(22. rimfire/any gauge shotgun) sidearms(22. rimfire revolvers or any other variety of magnum or semi automatic pistol) and some sort of melee weapon preferable a 6-8 inch strait bladed weapon. we would send search parties to collect ammunition manufacturing equipment easily found at any outdoors store. and to find other food such as MRE's or canned food as well as any melee weapons, guns, or ammunition.search parties would also be on the lookout for heavy vehicles such as buses, semis or armored vehicles to be used as a backup for our community. if we were ever overrun by the zombies we would have guns and ammunition stored in the heavy vehicles as a means of escape near the center of the compound.

I wouldn't recommend counting on the ammunition you need to be at a gun store, counting on something like that could screw your whole plan. If you get stuck fighting a horde before you can get to a store, or if evacuation of your area occurs, its likely you won't be the first person to try and acquire ammo and/or supplies once everything goes down. What is your area like? Is it highly populated, or do you live in the middle of nowhere? How long will it take you and your group to set up some sort of barrier at the peninsula? Are you going to be prepared to fight off any hordes while you're trying to construct your line of defense? How many vehicles do you have in your plan, and how much fencing would you need in comparison to how much room to carry the supplies in your vehicle(s)?
What is your escape plan in the event a horde too large to keep out or fend off attacks your group? Are you going to be able to get off the peninsula if this occurs? Do you have any ranged wepaons besides .22 LR? How many LRs will be available considering you might not be able to acquire more weapons after the outbreak has started?
