Fort Pulaski Survival Plan

I'm in the army so I know what it has to offer around Savannah and the best routes to take. The main concept of my plan is if or rather when Ft. Stewart and Hunter fall where to go and what to do.

1. In the event that if there was a military withdraw and I was left behind the first thing I would do is round up as many survivors as I can then raid the motor pool on base and steal at least 2 LMTV's or 5 tons(about 4 to five would be preferable to carry enough supplies) and then make my way towards the armories. I would raid the armories for weapons and most importantly explosives as they are necessary to the next stages of my plan.

2. Locate radios and batteries and load one of the vehicles with a generator and enough fuel to use it. They will allow me to contact any friendly forces in the area provided I can find out their freq or they know about mine. Most command posts on base have some kind of log with freq's on it so they would also be a pit stop if I had time.

3. Hit the army hospital and the small clinics for medical supplies. Everyone needs medicine at some point and thankfully the clinics are well stocked on most basic medicines.

4. Next on the list are a few of the dining facilities for packaged food and mre's. Food is essential especially the type that doesn't go bad with age. The mre's and sealed food will allow the pop at the fort to survive until we can establish farming.

That covers all that I would have to within the first day on post after that I would hit the road out the back gate because it's easy to get through and doesn't run through the main part of town where most zombies would conglomerate. Then it's a simple case of driving to Fort Pulaski on the coast and then destroying the car bridge that leads to the island and hardening the fort. The high walls offer protection, the fort has well water and there is ample space for farming and a moderate population. Seeing how if then apocalypse were to happen marshall law would be in effect any civilians at the fort would fall under my jurisdiction and subject to any laws I or any superiors that came along impose which would help to better ration items and control the population.

Good start.

It seems like you have a good basic outline, but you need a lot more detail. How exactly will you convince people to follow you? Will you have requirements for joining the group? Will you help every single crying civilian you come across? How will you transport the people themselves? Has the entire world fallen apart, and you can steal military property and loot without consequences? What will you do if your eventual destination has already been claimed? How will you deal with zombie attacks while traveling if you are herding any group of civilians? How many of your crew have legitimate weapons training? How will you establish farms on an isolated island before your food stores run out? How will you leave your base when you need to? What is your policy regarding the injured, the pregnant women, the children, the sick, and the bitten? How will you prioritize when gathering equipment? How will you defend your base from raiders who may have boats or zombies if they happen to be capable of swimming or climbing? What government will you establish? How will you deal with mutiny? You have a basic idea here, but if you want to survive the undead, you have to prepare for every possible contingency.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks for giving a lot of good feedback, most of it I should have probably elaborated on further than I did. This plan is one me and some of the guys in my platoon came up with when we were bored and just came off a weekend where we played left 4 dead nonstop. So at a minimum I have 5 personnel with a great amount of weapons and explosives experience. The bit with vehicles is simple as long as I take the vehicles in my company that I'm am authorized to use, it isn't stealing its utilizing company resources to accomplish the mission which is to uphold my vows to support and defend the American public. So, I doubt I would receive any kind of reprimand if I am using those vehicles for what they were intended for. If the fort is already occupied we will of course offer our protection to the inhabitants before proceeding with more direct measures. If we have to fight we can. Most vehicles that would be best to use in survival situations have mounted guns, provided we have enough time to grab them from the armory and mount them properly. Normally takes a regular troop about 5 or 6 minutes to mount it, so most likely it would have to be done in route. After resources are secured from post no stops other than our destination would be required so rescuing civilians along the way would be out of the question. No military unit would start operations without setting up a base of operations why should I. Once the fort has been secured I would use the radios to notify any forces in the area to join up at the fort so we can regroup and eventually start sending out sweep teams for any survivors that can be recovered easily. The injured would be tended too best as we can facilitate, many of us have some medical knowledge and especially our medic so taking care of basic injury and sickness is no problem anything more advance we would at least attempt to make them comfortable while they die. Those that are infected would be hauled off so the general population doesn't have to witness their execution. Children and pregnant women would be isolated the one of the magazines of the fort while the men and any healthy women are put to work hardening the fort with hesco baskets that would be recovered by the sweep teams. As for farming the teams can grab seed from walmart or one of the other local businesses and we can start growing food in the courtyard of the fort. The high walls would prevent zombies from gaining entry to the fort if they cross the waterway to the island and by having a 24hr guard shift running would prevent us from getting caught off guard by raiders. Saturation fire is the key to dealing with human threats if they know we are organized and armed to the teeth with lmg's they will be dissuaded from attacking. There are also local docks in the area where we can commandeer some boats and transform them into our own little version of patrol craft to control the waterways and allow us to let our sweep teams disembark for their missions when and where they need to be safely. The government is one of martial law whoever the superior officer is, is the one in charge. The fort will be run like exactly what it is a fort. The military reigns and as long as everyone follows orders and causes no trouble their safety is guaranteed. Mutiny will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly. Those that are found guilty of this shall be sentenced to death by hanging or by firing squad. Civilians inciting rebellion will be hanged while military personnel that rebel will be shot. The overall protection of the fort is priority. If contact with the government or other force is reestablished in the future the will need a foothold from where to launch other operations. If there is anything that I missed let me know I want to be ready in case of zombie apocalypse.
