Flee to Takutea.

At the time of initial zombie attack, conventional communication will still be active. Use this to assemble a medium sized group (20+), and use to co-ordinate everyone. Take group to civilian marina, steal enough boats, fuel, supplies etc (some will have been pre-stockpiled) to make journey to Takutea [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takutea].

Takutea is mainly uninhabited, with no premanent residents. This will mean there is a low chance of anyone (or zombies) already being on the island, however until a complete sweep has been done, there will be gaurds on watch night and day. Takutea has been designated a reserver for 'Red Footed Boobies': these will be our primary source of food until a proper agriculture can be set up. After the island has been swept coast to coast (min. 3x), we will begin work on a perimeter fence made from the trees growing on the island. This will be 3 fences thick, 10 ft high and there will be a single entrance, which must be opened from the inside. This will be used to keep people in for 24 hours (1 day) so we can be sure they are not infected (everyone on the island will also be observed for 24 hours).

The area left by the deforestation will be used for agriculture, both pastoral and arable. Any wooded areas left will be sustainably transformed into houses, gaurdtowers other fortifications (there will be another ring of fences around the settlement we will create). And any remaining will be fire wood and a habitat for Boobies and other edible birds. Any boats that wash onto the island will be watched for 3 days, then burnt from a safe distance.

Any fishing will be done near to the coast, and all fishermen will face the usual 24 hour quarantine after each trip. Any bodies (infected or not) will be headshotted, and incinerated away from the settlement. Several human-powered generators will be used to power radios etc, in order to keep in contact with the rest of the world. Rain water will be collected and stored for use.

Good, but a few pointers

Despite your plan, (and I think it's a good one), all boat-owners would have probably already shipped off to safe drifting distance from shore by then. Boating companies with larger fishing vessels will either be hijacked or excessively difficult to operate.

1. Can the boat survive the journy? Is this civilian boat able to take on ocean hazards?
2. Can you be sure of your navigational system in the boat? Nowadays newer boats are powered by GPS and satilite computer etc... Satellites may be offline during the invasion. Are you experienced with ocean-navigation or is someone in your group able to do that?
3. How long is this trip? How long will the trip be if you go offcourse? Enough supplies?
4. Is this island suceptible to monsoons? Ocean torrents? Are there toxic fish/ sea creatures to look out for while fishing?
5. Can you guarentee 20+ people can live off this island?

I looked at the island (wikipedia) and saw it's unlikely for people to "show up."

Good holdout, good plan. Very nice.

More Rebuttals.

I had not considered any of your points. So I shall endevour to do so...

1. If we get lucky and the apocalypse starts in the summer time, the ocean will be much calmer. Perhaps, if people are as succeptable to bribery and persuasion, we could work our way closer to Takutea without the need for boats (if we're super lucky, we could get to New Zealand, it's the closest major landmass). Many boats are built to withstand the harshness of the ocean- because if they broke, the manufacturing company is at fault.
2. I have a few friends with some experience, but I myself am incompetant with ships. We would have to hope on Satellites continuing to function (they wouldn't just fall out of orbit as soon as people stopped looking after them), but it is a very small target to hit from a very long way away- I shall apply more thought to this.
3. The trip will be very long, especially if we have to boat from England, down arond South America and then across The Pacific (it's only the boat journey I didn't put much thought into, promise! =P ).
4. As far as I am aware, the island is calm with very few natural hazards. Toxic creatures would be of little concern, since we could survive off of the Red Boobies and when fishing starts eat only minute quantities until we are sure they are safe.
5. I recall seeing it takes about a football field size of ground to support one person. Since we will be doing very little activity, we could knock a bit off of that. Most of the group intended are teenagers, so add that bit back on. Food will be a problem as we begin to set up agriculture, but I'm sure we could survive (for a bit) on fish, boobies and whatever food we can scavenge.

Thank you very much, I tried to think of everything, But I see I missed a few bits. Always better to think about them now rather than at the last moment when Zombies are climbing aboard your boat. =P

A few points.

Mainly to do with the beggining.
1-the phone lines would be packed if the infection has been announced (as everyone will know what zombies are)
2-the two main hotspots for the new age zombie plans are gun stores and you guessed it boat marinas.
3-i seriously doubt someone would let you take their boat you had best hope they are dead.
4-if you know about takutea chances are alot of other people do to and seeing as this is (as i call it) the enlightened age fore zombie attacks most people will have a similar plan to yours.
That being said, if you do get to the island without a hitch, good hunting.

Z day is THE day.

Rebutals

I will be using the internet to co-ordinate the group at first, and I feel even a lot of lag is acceptable for survival.
In England, gun stores aren't common, (and at no point do I even mention weapons)although since, I have gained access to the key of an 'Army Cadet' armoury and this is (to my knowledge) one of only two, and the other is owned by a member of the armed forces, who would likely be called away. The marinas being clogged is a serious problem, but most people will (hopefully) spend the first day or so getting supplies and trying to barricade their homes, buying us a little time to make our escape. Takutea is NOT well known about at all, I only found it by skimming around google earth for several hours, and it is tiny. Anyways, if someone else (or closer) decides to go to Takutea, then I am sure they will not be hostile, and I've asked Prophet to snatch it for me first anyways =P
