Costco: My Personal Zombie PlanSubmitted by BattleArcher on Tue, 01/19/2010 - 03:43 |
EDIT: I made a more indepth plan based on this, so go to the newer one!
Alright, this is my first submitted zombie plan, so I hope its up to par with everyone elses. Please feel free to offer constructive criticism: its better to realize now what you've missed, rather than figuring it out as you're devoured by a horde.
At the first sign of trouble, the first thing I would do is not gear up and move out, or go out and invade a small island country. No, its to take care of any potential medical problems: small problems like apendicitis will be fatal when no one is able to operate safely on you. I would hope my group, anywhere from 10-15 (some may have their own solo plan), would follow my lead, despite the cost problems. Once these have been taken care of, and the threat has been proven to be a zombie apocalypse, thats when we would secure our base of operations, a Costco. Even though its less than a mile off I-465, I feel that the benefits far outweigh this major obstacle. Within two miles of our chosen location, a Home Depot (lumber, bricks), Lowes (same as Lowes), Target, 4 different car dealerships and autorepair shops, two gardening stores, multiple hotels, Dicks Sporting Goods (guns and running shoes), and a Best Buy (shortwave radios/walkie talkies) are all located. A few miles away are two gun shops and some local home repair shops. All of these resources will be invaluable when the end begins. Supplies will be found even in places where most would never consider: for example, people may go to Home Depot for lumber, but will they have stopped to consider that medical supplies will probably be found in a employee areas only? The same applies for most places: some rules and morals that have been taught to you MUST be dropped in order to survive. If you are not willing to take what you need, survival will be extremely tough in the first week of chaos. Costco will most likely be sold out of food and water, or looted, but it will still make a great place as a secure base: the front door has a gate that can be rolled down, emergency doors and any doors with no handles are built in with steel frames and can only be opened from indoors, and the truck unloading station has a two-three foot dip with only an inch or two of foot space outside once the gates are down, all of which should keep us safe from any breaches. Of course, any doors in steel frames will be welded shut as time permits, and a new plan that my friend suggested, pulling a semi in front of the front gate to block any direct attack, as well as pulling up smaller trucks outside some of the side entrances, all in order to protect against breaches. Once the Costco has been secured on the outside, all of our effort will be focused on inner defenses. The only entrance, once all of the other entrances have been secured both externally and internally, will be the unloading station, which will house the vehicles and allows both a quick escape from a breach and allow raiding parties to go search. All defenses will be checked at least 3 times a day, at least for the first year, to make sure that there are no weaknesses in the defense. Finally, after the defenses have been secured (hopefully before any zombies have a chance to make their way to our location), our focus will turn to the creation of a "democratic oligarchy", and the development of internal structures. An elevated living space, kitchen, quarantine zone, armory, greenhouse, and water collection/purification zone will all have to be at least started before the end of the first week. In the long run, I'm sure we will accept those who have nowhere else to go. Obviously, we won't accept just any unknown newcomers from the wastelands: they will first be quarantined and examined for any signs of zombie bite/infection or disease, then seperated from the rest of the community, under armed guard, to try and see what their motives are, good or ill, or if they can be of any use to our compound. We will not kill anyone if they are not guilty or useful to our group, but we cannot tolerate insubordination or open treason. Execution will be the primary method of punishment for serious crimes. Our hope is to eventually be a bastion of human civilization, amongst the ruins of the zombies and raiders. We also want to be able to establish communcations with other survivors groups throughout the country, to try and map out whats ruined and whats safe.
I probably didn't answer everything I wanted to and left out some details, but is late, so I'm just gonna end it there. If you're confused over any part of this, please feel free to ask, or point out any probelms. It'll probably improve my plan, so criticize (constructively please!) to your hearts content.
because survivors are the greatest threat, they could sneak in and kill you while you sleep, so as to take control for themselves. think about it. ive only got my sworn friends and allies on my side, none of them outsider scum.
You are correct, in that the vast majority of people will be a danger to our community. However, we will be keeping a relatively low profile. The only people we hope to discover, and potentially bring back, will be those found on raiding trips. The odds of us finding a small survivor community, especially within the first couple of weeks, during a raiding trip is pretty likely, and those we deem peaceful will be given an offer to come to our community. If they accept, great for us and them, and if not, we will not reveal our location to them. Any attempts by them to follow us will be met with fatal consequences on their part: secrecy will be an important part of our survival. As for any raiders who find us, the prospect of facing organized resistance from a heavily fortified settlement should scare most of them off: anyone who's brave enough to attack will be sure to also face zombie hordes in the area, so we should be okay in that area. Anyone who actually joins us will be under heavy guard for the better part of a year, will not be allowed to leave except for raiding trips (where they will also be under guard), and given unvital tasks inside, so as to prevent any kind of sabotage. Any suspicious activity will be met with trial by jury, and then execution. While I'm sure that some raiders will be able to get inside, they shouldn't be able to sabotage or destroy us, at least severely. Other than that, I don't see any other kind of security measures, aside from giving them seperate quarters from the main group. That answer your question?
