Well, I have a couple of plans ready for when the zombie apocalypse is announced - depending on my location, since where I am usually depends on the day. I'm also assuming that these zombies are slow-moving.

AT SCHOOL: Oof. I'm going to die if I'm at school, I just know it, since the school is in the heart of a bunch of stores, a mall, and a city. But I have to put the plan anyway. First, I'd find someone with a nice car. Preferably a Hummer or something heavy-duty. I totally do not care about the person. I care about survival. After I have found the person, I will blackmail them into letting me use their car, with promises of survival - this will come into play later in the plan. They'll do it if they are desperate. However, if worse comes to worse, I can kill a zombie and steal their keys, since it's difficult for me to feel shame.

I'd try to gather up as many of my friends as possible, since a lot of them go to the same school. Since I'm in college, there are a lot of adults as well. Preferably adults with cars. I'd pick people who are in shape and hopefully attractive (;D) and discreetly pull them aside. I know there will be a panic if the undead are announced, but I'd hope to recruit some of my friends and send them on the same mission. I'd probably recruit my friends and about a dozen extra people, keeping the male/female ratio even. Old friends and family are discarded, because this is war. Sure, I will feel remorse for them, but for all I know they have survived. I don't have responsibility to people that aren't in my immediate vicinity.

First, I'd raid the bookstore and cafeteria, break the glass on the vending machines. The area outside of school is gridlock right after it is announced, I'm quite sure of it. I'd also raid the utility closets, search for guns beneath counters, search out knifes and pots and pans in the kitchens. After gathering food and weapons (I'd also orchestrate a raid of any nurse's office or search for supplies used by dental students, to get medical supplies) Most people will have computers, cell phones, or iPods, and they could get books from the library, so entertainment would be taken care of.

After I have all of these items, I'd find one of the classrooms in the older buildings. A lot of them do not have windows and have few exits, so I'd choose one of them. I think the one I'd choose the computer lab, which is fairly large, and has two doors. They are on either sides of the classroom, so if zombies are closing in on us on one door, we can exit through the other. There are plenty of exits on all sides of the building, which means it's less secure, but ensures a good getaway. I'd use the desks in the classroom to remove a quickly-removed barricade on both doors. This, however, would be a waiting place: We'd wait for a day or two, until the traffic has reduced but the zombies have not had that much time to spread to us.

After waiting that long, we'd fight our way out, probably in small groups of two or three at regular intervals. We'd carry as much with us as possible, and the people with cars would help us: We'd drive a mile down the highway. We'd go to the WalMart down the road (carrying at least some supplies with us), assuming no one has gotten there first: There are plenty of superstores in the area, though, so I'll assume if we can't get WalMart we can go somewhere else, and is WalMart has been raided, of course, there are superstores and markets in the area which might prove to be useful.

Assuming we get the WalMart, we'd have to move fast. We'd siphon some gasoline from neighboring cars and keep that, and we'd raid the superstores around for essentials and weapons, if we have enough time, and then quickly move to barricade all entrances. The back entrances, the loading dock, and the main entrance (which is made of glass, so I'd assume mixing some concrete and ripping apart furniture will be essential to build the barricade) will all be sealed: I'd probably keep maybe two entrances open, both of which will be under constant watch and ideally on either side of the store.

Then, I would locate oil, timber, and matches, and store them carefully: They need to be protected, because I don't think that the electricity would stay long. We need them for cooking. At this point, I think the bathrooms would stay facilities, but I'm not sure I'd waste water for them to flush. There is rotting flesh wandering about, I don't think I'd care about the smell. Also, with the water, I'd find as much of it bottled as possible. I'd find any containers as possible (it's a WalMart, there are a lot of them) and fill them with water. It'd be essential for the water to be boiled before being drunk.

I wouldn't be too worried about food for now, besides rationing and eating the stuff that can spoil/melt first. Eventually, I'd try to get through some flooring to find dirt, and I'd try and grow food. All weapons would be found, and if there weren't any, we'll make them. I'd find any guns beneath counters, I'd sharpen shovels and garden tools into deadly tools (used for lopping off heads). Anything that could possibly be a weapon will become one.

Now, we'll wait. It's a spreading virus: I'm not sure how long we'd last, but I'm hoping long enough for the virus to die down. Assuming we last that long, after we realize they are gone, we'll take any seeds we have, grow food, and try to rebuild a civilization. Since the apocalypse seems to make people want to go at it like bunnies, we might even have kids.

AT HOME: Upside. I live in a very rural neighborhood, and anyplace that may be crowded is 20 miles away at least. It might not sound like much, but it gives me time to prepare and kill my neighbors if they become zombies. However, it'd be hard to get weapons. I live with my Mom and Dad, and I have two large dogs and two cats. So, I'm not very well-off, especially because my house has a lot of glass. I'd probably seek out alive neighbors (even though I live in a rural area, on a mountain, I have a few neighbors) and see if one of them has a suitable place to hide out with zombies. If not, well, I have a backup plan.

I have a cellar downstairs, underneath where we added onto the kitchen. There are two windows, large enough for a human to crawl through. They are easy to barricade, and they open, so I'd leave a crack in my barricade to let out smoke for the fire. The only entrance (besides the windows, which are easy to cover) is a large hole. The rest is solid concrete besides the window, and the roof was basically made to hold human weight. It's a floor. I highly doubt the zombies will fall through the floor and get us. The hole can be barricaded easily with the freezer we have right outside the door, and a few shelves and other items can be used on the other side, basically making it a barricade who needs a few coordinated humans to move it.

The moveable barricade is necessary, since I plan to use an underground bathroom downstairs as a bathroom, not because of the toilet, but because it's safe to go to the bathroom there (no zombies getting through feet of dirt) and because, without plumbing, the smell will be locked off.

Similar to the other plan, I'd find any containers and fill them with water. I'd find all the bottled water (my dad loves sparkling water, so we have a lot of bottles of those) and store that as well. I'd also take the mixable concrete in case any of the barricades need to become more solid. The thing I love about this basement is if the zombies have decided to go attack one barricade, we make out safely in a totally different direction, so we are safe for now. My Mom has a lot of protein bars and Ramen, and we have tons of food and medicine (including painkillers which will come in useful for the injured) so we'd be able to store that. We don't have any guns in the house, but we have swords, knives, and gardening tools that can be sharpened to satisfaction. If possible, I'd actually have my Dad and a couple of others drive quickly to the center of town, which is small, but has a grocery store, a hide shop, and - get this - a store where you can buy weapons. They'd grab anything that is left and drive back. For entertainment, I have a lot of books, a DVD player with lots of extra batteries, DVDs, and an iPod - so we don't get bored to death, of course!

We'd all retreat into the cellar. The cellar is small, but it can hold may a dozen people comfortably. One of my neighbors is a friend, who owns chickens. I'm assuming we'd find some way to coordinate keeping the dogs, the cats, and the chickens on one side, and the humans and the supplies on the other. Worse comes to worse (the chickens not laying, no room for the animals) we'd have to kill them - but the chickens would yield meat.

Of course, after a while, we'd run out of food and water. I'd plan to move the barricades and take two separate cars, the ones that are the biggest. Gas would be siphoned out of any cars that are left. We'd fight our way to the cars and run like hell. Anywhere. I'd imagine we'd last a month or two, and hopefully there'd be somewhere we could run to. If not, we'd take any supplies that are left from rioting and start the whole process again.

These are assuming that we survive. I'm actually so clumsy and my plans are so half-baked we'd all get trampled to death by frightened crowds at school, and eaten within an hour at home.
