Bugging OutSubmitted by Tazzie on Fri, 04/23/2010 - 02:55 |
Hmmm Zombie plan O.K. here we go. I am assuming that its a few days in and im getting a bit concerned about dead guys and gals wandering the streets muching on people. I have seen the first one literally 2 minutes ago, the old guy from up the road was having a great time tucking into a 12 year a few houses up.
I am not so much paranoid, just what most people call over organised. In my garage sits my bug out gear, that consists of 2 sleeping bags,a tent, axe, basic tool kit, first aid gear, a gas bottle, which i rotate on the BBQ so one is always full, a torch and 2 weeks worth of freeze dried and canned food, along with 20 litres of water. I also have 2 x 20 litre jerry cans of fuel.
Lock up doors and windows, it might keep them at bay while i get mobile. Day of bug out, pack the gear into my Toyota 4x4. (2 minutes ) Throw some clothing quickly into a bag. (3 minutes) I am a competitive pistol shooter, i own a Springfield armoury 9MM and a Dan Wesson 357 revolver, so retrieve these from the safe and then do same with ammunition. (3 minutes) Throw handguns into bag and grab smallback pack off hatrack. (1 minute) Fill backpack withanythign that might last from pantry. (2 minutes) Take bag and pack get into car. (1 minute)
At this point i would be panicing somewhat worrying that i have taken too long. (Of course the site of Arthur Minchin snacking on young Mark Davis's head was a bit unsettling)Start car, and press lift button on remote garage door. If there no zombies, great, if there are,i'm running over them.
I know my destination its a fishing shack at the highland lakes, being summer it gets very little use (as the fishing isn't as good) Luckily i have 3/4 of a tank and my 40 spare. More than enough.
I drive carefully, as i have noticed that there is a lot happening, and cannot see the emergency services being free to help me out if i crash. The trip would be slow and i would expect to face some minor delays, nothing too significant as there are many roads out of the area. My trip to the shack will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
I know where the keys stashed, i have fished here for 17 years. I unpack, go to town boarding up the windows, from in and outside. Go in and stck something heavy against door.
BUT things to ponder.....
Ongoing water - no drama there.
Ongoing food - great in summer lots of wild life and some fish, still some about in winter, but not so good.
Fuel for cooking - not great at all, even though i am prepared it is not enough gas. Some local farms, can scavenge when i am set up for supplies. Isolation of the area means there might be some healty people.
Heating - no problems, plenty of wood.
Security - Will need a lot of work to try and secure a perimeter.
Overall viability - Good, but with much hard work.
Overall viability???????
