The Bezz Survival Plan

Death From Above's picture

My plan takes at least one or two years of preparation, mainly preparing handmade shotgun shells, if 40 shells were made every day for a year (give or take a few), that would translate to about 14,600 shells, and of course if I had friends chip in, more, which I would then store in a rented container.

1. First day of the Appocolypse, news in the morning (I always listen to news in the morning so yay for me), first call my friends and arrange a meeting at the Delta Bessborough Hotel a rather large castle like structure located in the business district of Saskatoon (I'll attach some pictures), next grab a car get my mom and head down to the 'Bezz' meet my friends steal a few half tonnes and some trailers, and get my enourmous stash of ammo, a few of us taking Melee weapons to fight the Zombies off and divert attention while the others load the trailers, needless to say it will probably take several trips as we will need to move off before we get surrounded. After this I will split my few friends into groups, some going to raid superstores around town for food, others tasked with cleaning out every major arms dealer in the city, they will also be charged with gathering supplies for making amunition namely pellets paper and gunpowder for shotgun shells, and alchoholic beverages for Molotov Cocktails as well as anything else we need vehicles radios safety equipment etc, along the way stopping to rescue survivors and stranded, hopefully by the time this is completed we will have a good number close to a hundred or so, and hopefully a fairly equal gender ratio which will be important for a future repopulation effort.

2. Barricading the Bessborough, from the front this should be fairly simple, there is only one entrance about 30 feet in width, and the rest of this side is dotted with narrow windows each sill about 5 or 6 feet off the ground which are hard to get into and can be fairly easily boarded up, the only other entrance is to a small expensive Japanese resturaunt in the side of the building but like I said its small and it has thick heavy wooden doors (oak or something), with deadbolts so not to much worry there. For the main entrance 2 or 3 layers of concrete parking barriers would be placed outside the main doors, and since I'm more fond of killing Zombies than hiding from them that would be about it along with a layer of gasoline in front of the barricade applied freshly every day set alight for those especially crowded moments. These changes would be implemented as quickly as possible with a shotgun group forming a one block defensive perimeter. The rear of the hotel and Bezz gardens is where it gets more tricky, as you can probably see in the image I loaded there are a lot of large glass ground level windows, we would have to board most of these with layers of doors ripped from hotel rooms and any sort of thick wooden objects available leaving a few spaces with cracks to stick our guns out. The upside to this position as you can probably also see is that the hotel on this side has 2 bastions jutting out in a V and there is a fairly low roof on the rear entrance and windows so that virtually every angle of the courtyard can be covered from the hotel itself with rifle and automatic weapons fire which will greatly decrease the burden on the ground level defenders.

3. Survival, and so comes the fight itself, this for the most part is simple, are days will be spent taking turns firing shotguns from the ground and rifles and throwing Molotovs from the many windows and turrets lining the hotel, and making shells fixing weapons and preparing more Molotovs, I'd imagine that the Zombies would become dettered at times and look for other victims giving us short periods of rest and some time to counter attack the Zombies and gather food and supply's, as well as to clear the piles of rotting corpses and burn them, thereby limiting the risk of infection by exposure and keeping our defenses maintained. Plans for extra powerful waves includes pouring gasoline on the ground/Zombies and lighting using Molotovs, and or clearing the perimeter using powerful city snowplowing and constuction equipment which would be kept close to the hotel. Of course I'm assuming that Zombies even though undead and able to survive having they're lungs filled with water, cannot swim very well especially in a fast flowing river like the one that goes through my city, therefore the river gives us a major tactical advantage, if the Zombies on the East side get a whiff of the glorious odour of human flesh coming from our merry band, they will be forced to take one of the the 4 major bridges spanning the South Saskatchewan River all of which can be observed from the higher turrets of the hotel, seeing which bridges hold the majority of traffic we can then plow through with our heavy equipment killing hundreds within a few seconds. Of course in the case we are swarmed on all sides, and all survivors are called to arms on the ground we might be forced to another level, but then there are Canoes stored in the Bezz, so all we would have to do is get to the low roof at the rear and clear a path to the river in order to escape, although I'm not sure it would come to that with consistent bridge clearing and supply raiding, I think survival chances look fairly decent. Another important factor to realize is the population is not enourmous about 230,000 for the urban area, which means a few months of war would probably exhaust the local infestation, by no means ending the Apocolypse, but allowing for some extended downtime, and then of course, I can't really see Zombies operating in our winters, dead or not it doesn't really make a difference up here :).

4. Recovery, with the local infestation cleared we would now have something of a base for operations in Western Canada and even the Northern United States, with access to a large airport we could support resistance in the central provinces (Alberta, SK, Manitoba), as well as northern states such as Montana ND, maybe even as far as Washington and Minnesota. Since most of the army resides in Ontario I don't worry about them, and BC well...they can just get on they're boats and fish :). For my people I would try to rebuild and fortify the city as much as possible, gather more people from the surounding provinces and maximize our defenses for the coming attack sending scouts to estimate the size of new Zombie armies, and of course if survival is out of the question we would simply bury extra food and ammo in a secure location and head as far north as possible, establishing the last human settlement...that is of course if none of you survive lol!

Please comment and suggest any improvments.

A most Excellent plan.

Sounds like a great plan, you can count me in, I'm from Ontario, and will be doing a similar thing to your plan (Called "My insanely strange zombie plan"), but more roaming oriented. However, upon review of your plan, I figured I would "roam" to your establishment with my squad of about six dudes all young with strong backs, good aim, and a will to help if you'll let us. Also, for your plan I looked at satellite images of the Bezz, and came up with some interesting defensive measures.

Now, these ones you've put in place are good, except the gasoline, in my opinion, is a waste, you may want to save that for vehicles (even though I am using strictly diesel vehicles because of fuel versatility, such as the ability to use diesel and/or furnace oil, Isopropyl, and gasoline, and if you have butane injection the effects are similar to nitrous oxide in gas vehicles.) or Molotovs or for burning bodies, instead maybe raiding a tire shop or something if you had to make a big fire. So with that said, if you apply these suggestions, you'll be able to stop the ranks of the undead from crossing the four bridges.

1) Assuming you have enough people available, and after you've implemented your plan at the Bezz, do the same at Park Town hotel, making it a forward outpost and have them relay you info by telephone, so that you can hear it ringing, and it's almost guaranteed to be a private conversation. If phones are not an option, walkies will work at that distance. Then, get a couple of them bulldozers or shipping containers and make a barrier with them, backhoes are especially nice for this because of the bucket on one side, (good for snipers, as the bucket is thick tough metal resistant to all but high caliber/explosive weapons, and cannot be climbed by zombies.) and the blade on the other, which can push/smash/crush/shield anything or anyone, and can tow/lift/demolish/push any obstacles/cars/buildings. and have a squad man them with a small camp set up. (perhaps tents with air mattresses on the road with concrete barriers/sandbags/homemade or actual barbed wire at the on/off ramps for Spadina crescent. Post sniper teams at the Spadina junction, watching for survivors/zombies/raiders/assistance.

2)At the Raddison Hotel and the 4th Avenue on ramp, do the same thing.

3)Set up a camp/roadblock at the roundabout in front of Victoria Bridge.

4)just in the grassy area to right, set up a camp, a roadblock on Senator Sid Buckwold Bridge, and just to the left of the bridge, another outpost in thos little buildings/houses.

Sorry about the novel, lol. I got a little carried away there :P

Hey thanks man! Wow, thats a lot of camping, I hadn't planned on garnering enough support in order to maintain a defense radius, but if you bring enough folks we might be able to pull it off, that would also be a great bonus for keeping the city after wiping out the initial infestation, good thinking! Although I would like something to burn the zombies with, if not gasoline than maybe oil or something, I see your point though, better save that kind of stuff.

Very well thought out

Very well thought out plan.
One criticism: Unless you have large amounts of gasoline readily available, I would hold off on the daily soaking (both of the barricades and the ground) until the hoard actually arrives. Maybe using some sort of delivery system? i.e. Hose? Rigged buckets? Just a suggestion.

Other than that I enjoyed reading this.

Good luck and good hunting, my friend!

Oh, and look for radio communication from my base: Ecretsu.

Actually I'd assumed that

Actually I'd assumed that most of our gasoline needs would be met during the initial supply run, but you do make a good point, dousing the hoard directly would save on gas and ensure plenty of kills, excellent, and I will be sure to listen for transmissions from the acclaimed Ecretsu!
