Why doesnt anyone wear some armor? I mean a good thick leather jacket could protect against some arm bites and leather gloves could protect hands. At least for the first few moemnts while your scrambling to your safehouse! Any thoughts on this

that is a good idea. I am pretty sure lots of people are planning on using leather jackets.

Also, hows about a hard hat? zombies can't bite worth jack, especially if you have a hard hat.

But not really, because that would be weird.

Uuunnfortunatly, people tend to underestimate the power of a full on, pain-free (to the zombie) human bite. I'm sure if you tried your damnnest you could bite through leather, but you'd be bleeding at the gums.

But with zombies, they don't care how painful it is. Food is food and they'd do anything to get to your soft squishy insides.

Nothing short of hard plastic would be the best thing to wear. Roit gear, kevlar, red-man suits anything like that would be better then leather. But unfortunatly, leather is the most common thing people have around their house. I don't expect everyone to have riot gear sitting in their closet (Though I don't doubt it from some of you hardcore zombie enthusiasts.)

But, I guess for quick personal protection leather would be optimal for short term.

yeah.. I think if you were going for "hunker down and shoot the zombies from my super-secret anti-zombie fort, you would be wearing something heaver, like hockey pads or football pads.

But not really, because that would be weird.

I feel it depends on your situation. It gets 110F where I live and 120+ in some of the nearby areas. I would dehydrate myself to death from sweating if I wore a leather jacket. Windbreaker would be about all I would put on to protect against the sun, just would need to be a little more cautious.

Yeah, I live in south Texas and it gets as hot as death around here during summer. But I think I would still wear something heavy, like leather or football pads because I'll set up electric fans and window AC units to keep the area of my house/yard tolerably cool.

But not really, because that would be weird.

Hm. Well, I did slightly consider the possibility of heat issues but what would be preferred, zombie death or protection? I'd not mind sweating my ass off and being protected. Though if you feel safe in an area, like a safe house, you needn't wear armor in there constantly. Just keep a lot of water on you, or migrate north.

I chose leather because most people have it (suck it PETA!) and also would this happen *going through a ruined city, building whatever* OMGWTFBBQ A ZOMBIE *zombie bites arm* eh leave the bastard he'll never bite through (a while later) Damn he bit through.

See what i mean by the time you register a zombie is trying to bite your jacket you can pull out a gun (or someone else and shoot it. Zombies are to stupid to realize they can bite through anything but the jacket or whatever.

And about the overheating aspect. that could be a problem i mean if you *want* i guess you could just cut off everything but the sleve as zombies tend to go that most. alot more practicle then carrying your own Poland Spring truck with you in the desert....

Best armor, easily accesible, easily put on and built for air flow! Motorcyclist protective suit. It seems to be the best alternative. It's definatly bite proof.

I agree with that. A few of the bikers at my school wear leather jackets n things that have really thick leather pads built in in certain places to help protect them in case of a wreck or fall. I don't care how hard a zombie bites, they won't be getting through that unless they had hours to sit there and gnaw on me, which, realistically, won't happen.

Give me a f650 with Mudboggers/SuperSwampers, a brushgaurd, KC Foglights, and then lemme send it off to be made bulletproof. Lets see how many zombies will fit in the treds...

A lot of the really nice bike armour isn't even leather; it's synthetic, with hard plating and ribbing inset in places for support and guarding certain areas of the body. I think that's the stuff he was talking about, though I could be mistaken.

i live just about 2 hours away from justindude's house, so i also have to worry about overheating. but, there are ways around the heat. wear paintball armor, with a rain coat or something water proof underneath, cut the pant legs off of an old pair of pants and sew them onto a denim jacket. ive already done this... mainly because i was bored as heck. basically, reinforce the arms, neck, head, shoulders, back, shins, ankles, hands, and upper chest. using duct tape can help. especially if you wrap saulder around your arms and then use duct tape to secure it.... if this doesnt make sense, its because im half asleep.

actually, if you think about it, human teeth arent like sharks teeth. they usually arent sharp. basically, get a wet suit to protect against infected blood, blue jeans, shin pads, knee pads, elbow pads, a paintball helmet, a leather jacket, and some denim wrapped around your neck.... thats pretty much all you need...

1, you'd cook, 2 good luck moving quickly in a wetsuit, 3 they're called wetsuits for a reason: they're wet, as in liquid permeable.

My votes for motorcycle gear, either that or sports pads and a rain slicker. or sports pads and a tyvex chemical suit (Check the paint dept at your auto parts store or raid a hospital)

Cross-referencing these two threads again. It is good to keep in mind contact through absorption when considering armour. If infected blood gets on absorbent materials that you are wearing, the chance for infection could be greater as the material will hold the liquid there, giving it a greater chance of permeating the skin.

im talking about a full body wet suit. i got it when i took surfing lessons in california. we were in the water for about an hour. when i got out, i unzipped the suit, my shorts and t-shirt were completely dry. neoprene is water-proof. i wouldnt wear something to keep blood off of me if it couldnt keep blood off of me. and as for heat, i spend all day outside in 95-108 degree weather. id be fine. plus i would make a few modifications if i needed them. such as trimming around the joints. but ive never had a problem with manueverability in that wet-suit.

I don't know how you managed to come out of the water completely dry. As the name implies wetsuits are semi-water permeable that's what makes them function as insulators, they allow in a little bit of water to act as insulation between the body and the neoprene. The non permeable variants are called dry suits and they are completely sealed. I just wouldn't trust them to keep blood off of me without soaking some up.

Firefighting gear does work well, just make sure to take out the inner layers or you'll cook. The only other problem is it's a little bulky so running and fighting would be difficult.

But if it's really thick you don't need to run because the zombies can't get through it.

It's thick, but it's not perfect. Nomex is tough stuff, but if you catch it on something sharp it might tear. Other than that it's awesome, there have been times that if I wasn't wearing it I would have been hurting pretty bad.

Winter are thicker than summer, but they're not "zombie-bite-proof" thick, for sure.

theres two of these...

torso- imma get myself some motorbike leathers. i think someone explained their Pros before so ill skip that...
headgear- a motorbike helmet will restrict my vision and hearing, so i figure some taekwando headgear and swimming goggles will do the job nicely. might look like a retard, but id rather look retarded than be dead.
footwear- combat boots. easy-ish to run in and should protect my feet if i step on shards of glass or anything.
shield- a riot shield, but i dont think ill use it that much.

I'm in Florida and my plan is to go to the Bahamas... way too hot for armor or thick leather jackets. I'll wear some cargo vests and shorts but my plan is to be light and agile. Gloves for gripping things better and protecting from touching anything z-contaminated. Pants are a maybe if I have some tactical boots and shin guards to keep from getting caught on fences and sharp branches- it'll also help if I am being attacked from the floor. Definitely some sunglasses and a hat to keep my visibility in extremely sunny weather.

I agree with the combat boots, especially since most have the 2 metal inserts inside the sole to redistribute any heavy weight or force across a larger surface so as to prevent the arch of your feet from breaking. They also have a pretty stiff material at and above the ankle to help prevent rolling your ankle. This could also help prevent a zombie bite making it to your ankle should you not notice the crawler at your feet. I have a pair that also have side zippers on them so they're easy as hell to get on and off. Check out Bates or Magnum, they both make great boots, though they can get pricey they last. Cops actually use these companies regularly because they are designed to be lightweight while still offering support and protection. I think you can actually buy a riot shield from some American company, just like kevlar jackets. It'll prolly cost something like $800 though.

I live somewhere cold, and wide open.
I want chainmail, I know it's heavy and reduces mobility, but I often hike carrying a heavy rucksack, so I'd live with carrying the weight, and I'm not a small flighty person anyway, so I'd be happy to have increased protection with low mobility.
A chainmail "Shirt" is about £100, and that offers torso, abdomen, back and arm protection.
I'd want kevlar lined motorcycle trousers for leg protection.
Combat boots.
A motorcycle helmet and a neck gaiter I'd cover with ringpulls from a can.
Leather gloves with a chainmail back and lower arm sections.

I'd rather be like a tank than a ninja.

I found a website any civilian can order from that carries police riot gear. I found these 2 sets that aren't that pricey for what they do, as well as how mobile they are. Check out the specs cause they talk about heat control/regulation built in to the fabric of the suit.
This one is upper body protection that has a camelpak hose guide so its not gonna move if you're wearing one.

The police can stop and search you if they suspect you are wearing bullet proof clothing, in the same way that they would stop and question you if you were carrying a cricket bat with no ball in the dark, but there are no laws against purchasing or wearing any bullet proof items.

This man drives a Sabre reconnaissance tank every day, and has no trouble insuring it, getting an MOT (compulsory test for all cars over 3 years old to prove road worthiness) or road tax. Also, because it only weighs 7.s tonnes, he can drive it on a car licence.

Only 14k pounds for tank? Damn I hope when I get a little older and have more money to burn I can buy something similar from our army surplus. Probably have to wait 2-3 decades before I could buy a really old Stryker or Bradley, maybe not so long for a older M113 personnel carrier.
