And so it has begun...Submitted by Mr 13 on Mon, 06/21/2010 - 07:24 |
And so it's begun. News reports lately have been sketchy at best regarding this new and "unheard of" disease due to the government's under-attempt at containing what is now the number one priority on everyone's list. It's spreading, fast, and now is the time to act.
What do I expect our new foes to look like? A lot like us, except with blood dripping from their teeth. I believe the virus will completely obliterate ALL sense of humanity without damaging the central nervous system, meaning that they will be able to sprint endlessly. They will have access to all manner of glands (adrenal and otherwise), their digestive system, and all organs. This means that a normal shot to the heart would kill as well as several bullets to the chest or head. They will need to feed to survive, and they will.
The virus will be transmitted via bodily fluids only. (so i believe)
First thing to do is find a TV with cable, preferably one with the 500+ channels with all news stations from here to Russia. While the news may not provide any useful information, you can determine the state of your area and other areas based off communications. If your local station is still fully operational, you have some time. If not, it's time to MOVE YOUR ASS. This also gives you a good opportunity to check your destination's area as well. Internet may be used in replacement, but could prove to be unreliable. We all know how truthful people here online are.
My first act is to gather everything I need. My guns (three or four shotguns, three hunting rifles, 3 pistols), my melee weapons (axe, crowbar, prybar), and my father's two crossbows + ammo. Also get all the canned and non-perishable food availbe to me at the time. Medicine, and various other supplies are included. Cash too, explanation later.
Next, and VERY IMPORTANT, get in contact with my group before phones go down. I have a good 7-10 people i'd want to get together first. They're all smart enough to wait it out for someone to get ready and make the pickup run. With all our combined supplies we take my friend's truck (and I mean TRUCK, this thing's a BEAST), and pack up and leave. Because i'm in an extremely remote area in Pennsylvania we have a good deal of backroads and offroad tracks we can take. Two of my friends are avid hunters and fishermen. The rest are pretty good at working together.
Next, we make our way west, sticking to small roads until either one of 3 things happens.
1. We run out of fuel
-We may pump abandoned cars fuel tanks / pump abandonded gas station
-Ditch the truck, take only what we can carry
2. We hit an impossible barrier or cluster**** of some sort we can't get through
-Ditch
3. We're overrun
-We fight and win
-We fight and die
If we can keep one vehicle our end destination includes the Western rockies. There are hundreds of extremely small towns (if they can be called that) whose population probably dwindles below 100 most times. We can probably simply set up in one that's been abandoned, take one over that's been infected, or set up a new one of our own. Ideally, the first option is the one we're hoping for.
If we cannot keep one vehicle, which is far more likely, we'll be looking for some kind of "modern day fortress." Essentially a high school, a prison, or an office building. Somewhere we can hold out with lots of supplies without fear of intrusion.
Prisinors will probably have made a run for it, if not been released entirely. Guards and such would have probably fled to their families or friends.
Of course, others may have this idea as well, and as such the following steps will be implemented upon meeting other survivors. If there are less than 4 survivors, ask them to join forces. A large team of people in a well established fortress can fend off attackers from looters, raiders, and zombies of course. If they are above four, the concern of supplies may come into question. This could cause issues.
Only under extreme conditions would I resort to violence to take hold of something that's been claimed by other survivors. In the apacalypse we need to work together, and only if I have to choose between us or them, will I choose us.
Once a fortress of sorts is established raids will be made to abandoned pharmacies, grocery stores, supermarts, whatever to resupply. We hold out then using various methods to make it look as though the place is infected and has been abandoned. Spraypainting "INFECTED INSIDE DO NOT ENTER" may actually work a lot better than it sounds. Think about it, aside from military cleansing of sectors no one would want to take the chance probably.
Electricity would be limited to certain rooms by way of a generator, serveral types of radios would be kept online at all times, but not used for transmission. Even with the simplest radio tech, someone can find your location in a heartbeat. Traps would be implemented, etc...
Questions and Answers:
Q. What if all scenarios here fall through?
A. Backup plans will be posted later
Q. Will you accept refugees in your fortress?
A. Possibly. It all depends on supply levels, stress levels, infected levels, timing, number of recent raids, weather the person seems trustworthy. All new members will be inspected for bite marks or wounds upon first entry.
Q. What types of guns do you own?
A. Technically, I own a .22 single shot rifle and that's it. The other guns mentioned belong to my father. I know there are 2 12 guages, a .357 magnum, a 9mm, and a hunting rifle with a scope (don't know exact make). Other guns I don't know. On top of this my friends own several guns each. We're about as redneck as it gets out here.
Q. How sure are you that your plan will work?
A. Meh, can't give odds. I'd say about 50/50 at best.
Q. If in this situation, I'm broadcasting on open frequency, how can I get a hold of you and convince you to broadcast back?
A. It's very unlikely i'd answer, if I did, i'd move to a location a mile or two away from my safe house, then answer back. Also if you mention my username (Mr. 13) over the radio, I'd be willing to at least pick it up, think of it as a safe word.
Q. Why is the last section of this plan seem not as well written as the first half?
A. Because some dumbass at Microsoft thought the backspace key would make a good back shortcut in Internet Explorer. I only saved the first part.
Q. Describe your group briefly please.
A.
1. Gun nut, hunter, fisherman, outdoors kinda guy, slightly overweight
2. " " , " " , " " , " " " " " , slightly overweight
3. Girl with child, hard working, strong mentally
4. Me, Awesome badassery
5. Typical average girl? (don't know how to describe)
6. Cousin of mine, Average all around basically
7. Friend, girl, unknown mental state or abilities
These are not ALL of the members, just the ones I KNOW would come with me right away. Others i'm not so sure about.
Q. Do you really think the zombie apacalypse is gonna happen?
A. It would make for a nice change of pace. Idunno.
Only thing I am worried about is you never mentioned anything about beer? lol. I would take a truck, if you are following dirt roads, you can push damn near anything off it, go through feilds, run over a small what ever. I would take a 1999 ford F-150 with the 5.4L 3V engine, damn near best fuel milage for pound for pound tough as nails. OR You could just look on goolge for a map to my place, and come here. My camp has lots of room! yay!
Trucks=Loud=More Zombies
Good idea with the painting, lots of people (even in the apocalypse- especially in the apocalypse) would want to avoid all signs of danger, and they'd trust you not to double cross, you little lier you!
I don't know much of the area you describe (I live in an area where it's mid sized towns and hamlets of around 20 people), but anywhere with long sightlines, a small population and any arable/pastoral capable land is good.
Not sure about taking a truck (or TRUCK if capitalisation is essential -.- ), because it would be loud, large and if the roads are blocked (or even in use with small back roads), you will be unable to pass.
It's always good to have a radio manned at all times.
With the survivors, you need to be careful, but it looks like you are.
Raiding = Dangerous, but essential if you can't make it to the primary base/incapable of farming.
Fishing's a good source of food, if there's enough fish nearby, and bear in mind how sensitive bodies of water are to pollution- no dumping, refuse removal or allowing zombies into the lake.
Well though out, I just like telling people their plans have holes. =D
Withdrawing all my cash from the bank as fast as possible afterwards serves one purpose, because people may still be in denial about the "end" and may be willing to accept cash for vital supplies. If they are I'm willing to profit off their stupidity.
I'm actually considering borrowing the questions from it to create an new plan of my own...
But you looked like you put in a whole goddamn bunch of effort so I voted.
