To start my friends and i would gather our weapons and survival supplies such as canned food, MRE's, any ammunition and bags to carry it all as well as food producing pets such as chickens that can quickly be gathered and moved and meet at our local outdoors store. there we would acquire any required ammunition preferably from 2000 to 3000 22.

Ok so in a zombie apacolypse the millitary can do 1 of 2 things. 1 it can stay together and fight the zombies or 2 it can disband along with the rest of the government, this plan applies to the 2nd one. Now in the time before the army disbands you will need weapons food water and shelter.
For food I wouldn't suggest a.store because everyone will rush to them and it will be chaos I suggest a food shipping company less people will be there a lot of food
For water my advice would be to fill up as many buckets (or similar items) with water before its shut off
